McDonald's Launches Mid-Autumn Festival Campaign With Chinese Martial Arts Game Yangyun Sixteen Voices

McDonald's pairs a returning Salted Egg Yolk Moon Burger with in-game cosmetics and five-city pop-ups in a Mid-Autumn tie-up with Yangyun Sixteen Voices.

McDonald's (麦当劳) has launched a Mid-Autumn Festival themed campaign in collaboration with Chinese martial arts open-world game Yangyun Sixteen Voices (燕云十六声), titled "As the Moon Arrives, Golden Arches" (如月而至金拱门), combining limited menu items, in-game activations, and offline pop-up events across five cities.

On the food side, McDonald's introduced a seasonal menu anchored by the returning Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Leg Moon Burger, available from September 16, alongside new additions including a Salmon Double Shrimp Premium Moon Burger, Moonlit Lovesick Twisted Fries, Toasting the Moon Pomelo Osmanthus Tea, Rice Flavor Big Rice Pie, and Rice Flavor McFlurry.

From September 24, bundled meals offer players virtual in-game cosmetics — including a Sworn Protection costume, exclusive knight names, and custom avatar frames — as well as a physical Scallion Unlimited massage hammer as a collectible peripheral.

An offline pop-up series, "Golden Arches Mid-Autumn Encounter Elegance Gathering," launched on September 19 across Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen, and Hangzhou. Attendees can collect character transparent cards, colored paper, game badges, and Meow Market packs tied to the Yangyun Sixteen Voices universe.

Inside the game itself, McDonald's has built an ancient-style virtual branch set in the Jiangnan region, hosting a Mid-Autumn gathering event and offering players a limited-time free prop experience.

The campaign reflects a growing pattern of food-and-beverage brands embedding themselves directly inside Chinese game worlds rather than limiting collaboration to packaging or offline activations. By placing a functional in-game branch in Yangyun Sixteen Voices alongside a real-world menu and collectible peripherals, McDonald's collapses the boundary between eating occasion and play session — a format that suits China's large overlap between gaming audiences and fast-food consumers, particularly around culturally resonant calendar moments.
