Last updated: May 31, 2026

China Insider (“we”, “us”) is a media company. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and the data rights you have.

What we collect

  • Email address — when you subscribe to our newsletter.
  • Analytics data — anonymous or pseudonymous usage data (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type) collected via Google Analytics.

We do not ask for, or knowingly collect, sensitive personal data, and our service is not directed at children under 16.

How we use it

  • To send you our weekly newsletter, if you subscribed.
  • To understand site traffic and improve our content.

We rely on your consent for the newsletter and on our legitimate interest in measuring and improving the site for analytics. We never sell your personal data.

Third parties

We share data only with the providers that run our service:

  • Beehiiv — newsletter delivery (stores your email address).
  • Google Analytics — website analytics.
  • Vercel — website hosting and delivery.

These providers may process data in other countries. Where they do, they rely on appropriate safeguards to keep it protected.

Cookies

We use analytics cookies (set by Google Analytics) to understand how the site is used. You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to opt out of analytics across all sites.

Your data rights

We respect your data rights. You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Have it corrected or deleted.
  • Object to or restrict our processing of it.
  • Receive a copy of it in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@chinainsider.news. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of every email. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your jurisdiction.

Data retention

We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, it is removed from our active list. Analytics data is retained for up to 14 months and then automatically deleted.
