Rice Fields and Skyscrapers: Welcome to Hangzhou’s Wildest View 🌾🏙️

In Hangzhou, the hottest “CBD” right now isn’t about finance or luxury malls—it’s about rice. Locals have nicknamed the farmland next to Qianjiang Century City the “Rice Field CBD”, and the photos are unreal: endless golden paddies right against rows of skyscrapers, with bullet trains slicing through the backdrop. 🌾🚄

The area, officially called Shiji Tianyuan (Century Fields), covers over 4,500 mu (~300 hectares). It’s not just for show—farmers actually grow rice in summer, then rotate to wheat, canola, and even sorghum depending on the season. Right now, it’s harvest time: some southern plots are already being cut, while the more photogenic northern stretches are hanging on until mid-November (though storms forced earlier harvests in a few spots).

What makes it extra iconic is the city’s plan to keep it that way. Officials say the rice fields won’t be paved over; instead, they’ll balance grain production, ecological protection, and even cultural tourism. Basically, it’s becoming a built-in green zone for the city. 🌿

Netizens are obsessed. Some call it “the most aesthetic office view in China,” while others joke this is the real SimCity DLC.
