Marie Dalgar Commissions 100 Recycled-Plastic Stools Across 12 Nanhai Villages for Guangdong Land Art Festival
Marie Dalgar has placed 100 recycled-plastic stools across 12 Nanhai water villages as part of the third Guangdong Land Art Festival, opening September 9, 2026.
Chinese beauty brand 玛丽黛佳 (Marie Dalgar) is participating in the third Guangdong Nanhai Land Art Festival through a commissioned public-furniture project. Within the festival's special unit "Public Seating Plan: Sit by the Water," the brand has co-initiated "Movable Seating: Please Sit" with curator Zhu Likang, engaging F.O.G. Architecture architects Zheng Yu and Zou Dejing to design 100 stools — dubbed the "Nanhai Corner Stool" — distributed across rivers, market squares, and alleyways in 12 water-village communities throughout the Nanhai district.
The stool's form derives from the ubiquitous square plastic stool found on Guangdong streets. The designers collapsed that rectilinear silhouette into a triangular footprint, allowing each piece to operate in three configurations: raised on legs with a woven net pouch for storage, lowered to a compact low stool for casual sitting, or clustered with others to form a table or a loose circular arrangement. Each stool is injection-moulded in a single piece from recycled reclaimed plastic. The installation runs from September 9, 2026, and takes place entirely offline across the 12 participating villages.
The project places a commercial beauty brand at the centre of a formal cultural-arts programme, channelling the brand's visibility through craft and community infrastructure rather than product display. The choice of recycled plastic and a form drawn from everyday Cantonese street life anchors the work in regional material culture, distinguishing it from more generic brand-art collaborations.
