Insta360 Sends 127 Photographs by Yunnan Village Schoolchildren 30,000 Meters Into the Sky
Insta360 sent 127 photographs taken by Yunnan village schoolchildren 30,000 metres into the sky as the culmination of a two-year rural photography programme.
Insta360 (影石), the panoramic camera brand, has documented a two-year photography programme at Guanba Village Primary School in the Wumeng Mountains region of Yunnan province, culminating in a high-altitude exhibition that launched on September 13, 2026.
The project began when Insta360 supplied panoramic cameras to the school, where teacher Tian Xinyu (田新宇) incorporated them into a photography class. Over two years, more than 100 children produced upwards of 50,000 photographs.
In 2026, Insta360 partnered with Jiang Chenruixin (蒋晨睿昕), a university student based in Shenzhen, to carry 127 of the children's photographs to an altitude of 30,000 metres aboard a handmade high-altitude probe aircraft — creating what the brand calls a "cloud-based photography exhibition." Separately, Tian Xinyu selected 100 images from the full archive of 30,000 photographs to compile a printed photography book presented to sixth-grade graduates. The children responded by producing a panoramic video. Reflecting on the project, Tian Xinyu said: "When I hear their young voices again, I think I will return to that sunny afternoon."
