In Wuzhen, Even the Streets Are Performing 🎭🔥

The 12th Wuzhen Theatre Festival is back from October 16 to 26, 2025, and honestly — the whole town is in main character mode 💁🏻‍♀️. This year’s theme is “Swirling Up,” which basically means: let the drama rise and never stop spinning 🌪️.

Across 10 venues, Wuzhen is hosting 25 productions from 10 countries, totaling 71 shows — from poetic small plays to full-on nine-hour marathons 😮‍💨. The German group Deutsches SchauSpielHaus Hamburg opened the fest with Anthropolis-Marathon, a myth-meets-modern-life epic that lasts longer than most people’s relationships 🕰️💔. Also on stage: Suzuki Tadashi’s Cyrano de Bergerac, Stan Lai’s dreamy Flower in the Mirror, Moon in the Water, and Australia’s Multiple Bad Things (relatable title, tbh).

And because this is China — the drama doesn’t stay indoors 🎭. The Ancient Town Carnival brings 2,000+ street performances, youth competitions (themes include meteor, credit card, and peony 🌸💳☄️), and random theatre moments when you least expect them. You might just grab coffee and end up in a scene.

Between misty canals, glowing lanterns, and live crowds chasing pop-up acts, Wuzhen itself becomes the show 🌫️✨. This isn’t just a festival — it’s a whole mood.
