Elon Musk’s son brought a handmade Chinese tiger bag to the Great Hall — now everyone wants one

A high-level Beijing meeting somehow turned into a mini fashion detective case.

A high-level Beijing meeting somehow turned into a mini fashion detective case.

On May 14, Elon Musk brought his 6-year-old son X Æ A-XII to the Great Hall of the People during American President Donald Trump’s China visit, alongside major U.S. business names including Apple CEO Tim Cook and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. But while everyone else was in serious summit mode, little X stood out in a light blue New Chinese-style vest, a tiger-head hat, and a tiny tiger-shaped crossbody bag. 🐯

Chinese netizens quickly tracked down the bag: it’s from YASTEE, also known as 芽小七, a Guangxi-based handmade brand with a 19-year-old shop. The brand focuses on original designs, hand-sewn pieces, and works with ethnic minority embroiderers to make its products by hand.

The viral piece is a guochao tiger-head phone crossbody bag. Its design was inspired by traditional Chinese tiger-head dolls, with tiny embroidered details carrying lucky meanings — including a toad for wealth and a butterfly for added blessings. Each bag reportedly takes around 7 days to make, which makes the sudden internet demand both adorable and mildly terrifying for the workshop.

After the photos went viral, the shop’s sales surged and stock quickly sold out. The brand is now working overtime to ramp up production, while the matching New Chinese-style silk vest also started getting attention online.

Big names were in the room, but Gen Z noticed the tiny tiger bag. Fair enough. 🧧
