7-Eleven in Guangdong is selling an edible “shoe sole” and yes, people are eating it

If you thought convenience store food had peaked, think again.

If you thought convenience store food had peaked, think again. 7-Eleven locations in Guangdong just quietly dropped one of the most unhinged snacks of the year: an edible shoe sole. Yes, really 👟😂

The item sits under the oden section and is officially a soy-based tofu snack molded to look exactly like the bottom of a shoe. To fully commit to the bit, it even comes in two “sizes”: a shorter 16 cm version and a longer 24 cm one. Naturally, the internet ran with it. Shoppers started posting photos joking that they’ve “finally eaten a shoe sole,” while comment sections filled up with disbelief and hunger in equal measure.

According to staff explanations and early reviews, the product is a response to a long-running food meme that goes, “This broth is so good, even a shoe sole would taste amazing.” So 7-Eleven basically said: bet 😌

Taste-wise, people who’ve actually tried it say it’s a firm, chewy tofu with a Sichuan-style braised flavor. Slightly tough, very savory, and oddly fitting for something that’s supposed to resemble a shoe sole — the longer you chew, the better it gets.

The snack is currently a Guangdong-only limited item, planned to stay on shelves until early February. Whether it becomes a permanent menu item depends entirely on how hard people keep chewing through it 👀🔥
