Xiaohongshu and FIRST Youth Film Festival Co-Launch Nine Short Films by Emerging Directors Under "World in Distortion" Theme

Xiaohongshu and FIRST Youth Film Festival launched nine short films by emerging directors on September 15, themed around "World in Distortion."

Xiaohongshu (小红书), in partnership with the FIRST Youth Film Festival (FIRST青年电影展), launched "Xiaohongshu Super Works" (小红书超级作品) on September 15, a short-film initiative produced jointly by Xiaohongshu Short Film and Xiaohongshu Stars. The project brings together nine emerging-generation directors and nine groups of actors across nine original short films, all built around the theme "World in Distortion."

The films premiered sequentially on the personal Xiaohongshu accounts of their respective creators. Three of the nine titles illustrate the thematic range of the project. "Make a Wish" (许个愿吧), directed by Mosaic Coco and starring Kong Lingmei, depicts a mother-daughter relationship reshaped by artificial intelligence. "Evaporation" (蒸发), directed by Baboon Frank and starring Song Yanfei, imagines a world in which a person's identity can be infinitely copied, modified, and sold. "Drop the Handkerchief" (丢手绢), directed by Jiang Wenyu and starring Li Sheng, draws on the children's game of the same name to tell a story of female self-salvation and mutual protection between women.

By distributing the films through individual creator accounts rather than a centralised channel, the project positions the platform's content ecosystem itself as the venue — each director's personal following becomes part of the release mechanism.

The distribution model reflects a broader dynamic on Chinese social platforms, where creator-account reach can substitute for traditional broadcast infrastructure. Premiering films through individual accounts rather than a brand page ties each film's visibility to its director's existing community — a structure that rewards platforms like Xiaohongshu, where creator identity and content credibility are closely linked in users' minds.
