When Pop Mart meets an abandoned village, the art gets wild 🏚️👻

Pop Mart art show drops in a “ghost village”?!👻

During China’s National Day holiday, Pop Mart teamed up with Ctrip Travel to launch Hirono “Behind Time” — a public art exhibition set inside Houtouwan Village on Shengshan Island, Zhejiang — an abandoned coastal village swallowed by greenery. 🌿🏚️

The show instantly became a holiday hit, drawing visitors who hiked hours just to find this real-life fantasy world. Instead of a mall or museum, Pop Mart scattered the artworks through moss-covered houses, vine-choked alleys, and crumbling walls — turning decay into design. The theme? “When human time stops, nature takes over.”

At its heart stands the Birdman from Hirono’s Sanctuary series — a quiet, haunting symbol of solitude and rebirth. The setting perfectly matches Hirono’s identity: a wanderer “seeking oneself in the wilderness.”

The character’s creator, Lang (IG @langswork), is a Chinese contemporary artist whose work bridges emotional storytelling and art-toy culture. Together with Pop Mart, he turned a forgotten island into an open-air meditation on time, memory, and nature.

“Pop Mart really said: from city malls to haunted hills 💀,” joked one netizen.

The Hirono “Behind Time” exhibition runs until October 30 — if you dare to find it. 👣
