Taobao Launches "Baby First Runs Away" Holiday Countdown Campaign Featuring Celebrity Zhou Yiran in Inner Mongolia

Taobao's "Baby First Runs Away" campaign uses a celebrity video, a personality quiz with AI try-on, and a whimsical clothes-as-traveler narrative to drive pre-holiday apparel shopping.
Taobao (淘宝) has launched a pre-holiday countdown campaign titled "Baby First Runs Away" (宝贝先开溜), built around the conceit that users' apparel items have already packed themselves off to Inner Mongolia before their owners take their holidays. The campaign spans three content formats across the Taobao platform.
The first element is a video titled "Wild Shots on the Grassland," shot on location in Inner Mongolia with celebrity Zhou Yiran (周依然). The film adopts the tagline "Inner Mongolia has no inner turmoil" and presents a visibly relaxed, low-pressure atmosphere, deliberately avoiding hard product placement.
The second element is an interactive quiz — "6 Questions Test Your 'Running Away' Dressing Personality" — with AI try-on functionality embedded directly into the experience, allowing users to visualise clothing on themselves within the same flow.
The third element is content published through the official Taobao Baby (淘小宝) account, narrated in the first-person voice of the clothes themselves, asking: "How did my clothes run away on their own?" — echoing the Chinese-language hook 本宝的衣服怎么自己跑了. Activity was noted on September 16 and September 27.
The campaign packages pre-holiday shopping intent as a lighthearted, character-driven narrative rather than a promotional push. By routing discovery through personality tests and AI try-on, Taobao ties entertainment engagement directly to purchase consideration, compressing the gap between content and conversion on its own platform.
