Lululemon and GANNI Launch 1980s Dance-Inspired Capsule Collection With Campaign Film Starring Jennifer Beals and METTE

Lululemon and GANNI launch a global limited-edition activewear capsule on October 15, 2026, inspired by 1980s dance films, with a campaign film featuring Jennifer Beals and METTE.

Lululemon has collaborated with Danish fashion brand GANNI (盖尼) on a limited-edition capsule collection launching globally on October 15, 2026. The collection merges lululemon's performance fabrics with GANNI's playful design language, incorporating bold color-blocking, leopard print, and ruffle details into activewear silhouettes.

Key pieces include reimagined versions of lululemon's iconic Define Jacket alongside new entries such as cropped wrap jackets, leg warmers, and headbands — all drawing from the visual vocabulary of 1980s dance films.

To accompany the launch, lululemon released a campaign film titled "Joy Is A Power Move," featuring actress Jennifer Beals and singer-dancer METTE. Shot in a dance studio setting with choreography referencing 1980s dance culture, the film anchors the collection's creative direction in movement and self-expression.

According to the brand, the collaboration originated in GANNI creative director Ditte Reffstrup's personal affinity for dance, with early conversations between the two brands centered on how to integrate athletic function with GANNI's aesthetic. Reffstrup has cited 1980s dance films as a formative creative influence — noting their energy, determination, and spirit of freedom, as well as the self-expression that dance carries — as the starting point for the collection's design.

The collaboration follows a broader pattern of activewear brands enlisting fashion-world partners to extend their cultural reach beyond performance positioning. Lululemon has pursued this direction before — its artist collaboration with Geoff McFetridge around running and mindfulness drew on fine-art credibility rather than fashion — while the GANNI partnership shifts the frame toward runway-adjacent design and nostalgia-driven storytelling.
